Thinking about Attending a Weight Loss Camp in 2021?
If you’re like a lot of folks, you are already thinking about the upcoming NEW YEAR. Perhaps it’s because we are starting not just a new year, but a new decade, talk about a FRESH START! If improving your health is at the top of your priority list, maybe you’ve considered jumping on the bandwagon and joining a weight loss camp in 2021 to kick-start your fitness and health goals for this wonderful new chapter of your life.
Weight Loss Camps Have Changed in the Past Decade
Weight loss camps and resorts, “fat farms” (cringe), and the so-called “weight loss spas” have been around for over 40 years. The trend started with posh weight loss spas for the super rich and then shifted to a “fat farm” mentality, where a starvation diet and intimating drill Sargent would work you till you wanted to crawl in a hole and die. From there, more and more weight loss camps have popped up. The majority are large resort-style (choose your own activity) and then of course, boutique weight loss camps (like Unite). We’ve seen a few of the large resort-style weight loss camps close up shop this past decade as more and more folks were choosing smaller programs with a more “personalized approach”.
Choosing the Best Weight Loss Camp For Yourself in 2021
With so many options, how do you choose which is the best weight weight loss camp for yourself? Ask yourself a few questions to help determine which camp is the best for you, then make it happen!!
- How big/small do I want this program to be? 10 guests or 100? Think about how size effects accountability to show up.
- What location sounds the best to you? Beach? Mountains? Farm? City?
- How much structure do I want? A “choose your own adventure” or nope, it’s all outlined and preplanned for me.
- How much exercise do I really want to do? Some weight loss camps have a few class options you can choose from, some will have you sweating for 5 hours or more each day.
- What is included in the price? What is extra? Will anyone be trying to “sell me” on something once I am actually there? Will I have my own room? Will I have my own bathroom? What little unexpected extra fees might pop up?
- How long has this camp been in business? The cool thing and (not so cool) thing about this industry is that new weight loss camps do open quite often. That doesn’t mean they are all created equal. ONLY go to a reputable and trusted camp that has been in business for at least several years, it takes time to work out the kinks.
- What will I be eating? How much? Ask how many calories you’ll be eating. Some camps set you up for failure because they will literally starve you. Your metabolism will slow and you’ll go home with more troubles than you started with. Juice fasting, fad diets, and any program that asks you to buy their supplements or products should be a red flag.
- What is the weight loss camps approach to wellness? What mind/mental component will be addressed? What pillars do they focus on?
- Who is on your team? Are the trainers certified? Is there a dietician? Life-Coaches? Who else will be supporting me in this process?
